  5. Hong Kong Company Registrations Reach Record High in First Half of 2025

Hong Kong has once again affirmed its position as a premier destination for business incorporation and investment, with the Companies Registry reporting a surge in new registrations during the first half of 2025.

A total of 84,000 new local companies were registered from January to June 2025, bringing the total number of companies incorporated under the Companies Ordinance to a record-breaking 1.495 million as of end-June. This marks a significant milestone and reflects strong business confidence in Hong Kong’s pro-business environment, world-class infrastructure, and robust legal system.

The city also experienced a boost in foreign company registrations. During the same period, 761 non-Hong Kong companies established a place of business in the city, pushing the total to an all-time high of 15,600. This steady growth highlights Hong Kong’s strategic role as a business gateway to Mainland China and the greater Asia-Pacific region.

The growth extended into the city’s asset and wealth management sectors as well. In the first six months of 2025, 116 new Limited Partnership Funds (LPFs) were registered, raising the total number of LPFs to 1,099. Meanwhile, 109 Open-ended Fund Companies (OFCs) were set up, pushing the cumulative total to 579. These figures underscore Hong Kong’s growing attractiveness as a fund domicile for private equity and asset managers looking for flexible and tax-efficient structures.

Trust and corporate service providers also saw notable expansion. A total of 350 new licenses were issued to trust or company service providers, with the total now standing at 6,971. Additionally, the number of licensed money lenders increased by 71, bringing the total to 2,046. These developments demonstrate sustained demand for financial services and support infrastructure in Hong Kong’s thriving business ecosystem.

With record-high company incorporations, growing foreign investment, and increased activity in fund registrations and financial services, Hong Kong remains one of the top places in Asia to start a business, register a company, or establish an investment vehicle. These latest figures reaffirm the city’s role as a resilient and dynamic international business center.
